Will do; sorry if our emails seemed to indicate that we're thinking specifically of 64 bit.  I think we're all thinking "64 bit is what we need today / will need soon", and that is probably leaking through into emails.  But there is zero intention to put a specific size on the MPI_Count type (and corresponding Fortran KIND) in the spec itself.
