Hi P2P Folk,

In terms of an application that can benefit from streams/pipes between MPI
processes, the CORAL MCB benchmark
(https://asc.llnl.gov/CORAL-benchmarks/) might
be a good motivator. This is a stand-in for neutron transport codes where
particles move through the domain and could have multiple domain partition
crossings (move from one process to another) during a single timestep.
Within a timestep, processes poll for incoming particles and send exiting
particles to neighboring processes. The communication pattern is data
dependent and AFAIK unpredictable. There is effectively a communication
pipe between pairs of neighboring processes where the application wants to
push/pop particles.
