From david.solt at [hidden] Tue Oct 20 13:20:48 2009 From: david.solt at [hidden] (Solt, David George) Date: Tue, 20 Oct 2009 18:20:48 +0000 Subject: [Mpi3-bwcompat] Welcome to the backward compatibility mailing list Message-ID: Welcome at last to the backward compatibility mailing list. We have had some difficulty getting this setup which is why you have not seen any traffic. I posted the meeting notes for the first three meetings on the Twiki at https://svn.mpi-forum.org/trac/mpi-forum-web/wiki/BackCompatMeetings I added a column to the list of tickets on the Twiki at https://svn.mpi-forum.org/trac/mpi-forum-web/wiki/MPI3Backwards to include a column for our analysis of the following question: HDF Approach - does the API versioning strategy as outlined in APICompat5.txt address this type of backward compatibility issue. Is the API versioning approach really needed for this ticket? I propose the following entries: Has problems - the API versioning strategy does not completely address this backward compatibility issue. OK - there are no problems with using the API versioning strategy for this ticket. Required - the API versioning strategy works for this ticket and appears to be needed to address this backward compatibility issue involved. We planned to break down the tickets into groups so that people could start working on marking them based on the labels shown above. If you have plans to help with this activity, could you please send me a quick note and I can perhaps assist on dividing up the tickets. We discussed at the last meeting, that it may be helpful to be able to make some comments about some tickets, since many have oddities that do not make them perfect fits for one category. I will see what I can do to set something up for that, but for now keep track of any notes you generate. Torsten told me that he will not be able to participate in this working group. I propose that we may want to query the general MPI-3.0 mailing list for some additional volunteers. Any thoughts? Thanks, Dave
