[Mpi-22] Urgent ticket review - shocked!

Dear Rolf and Torsten,

I have done a bunch of more reviews (sorry for the ones I should have done
but missed in the first place). For #33 I would also really like to solicit 
more reviews, and as many volunteer readers as possible; this is a complex ticket, 
so please do have a look!
